MG TD TF 1500 - Side Curtain Rear Frame Chrome Strips

As TF owners know, the rear frames have a curved top. The new chrome strips Moss sent me for that area are straight, no matching curve! Anyone confronted with this piece have a solution on how to get the curve in the chrome strip without distorting it? It would be so simple to have this strip manufactured with the curve in it. I know how to work sheet metal but not bending a U shaped chromed strip without heat. Heat will ruin the chrome and it has to be formed cold. Any clues? The two strips, one on each side needs a 3/4 inch curved bend to fit the frame. PJ

There was a thread on this earlier this year with multiple solutions. Called Tf side screen chrome trim

Here is a pic of mine. It is a subtle curve. I think gentle pressure toward one side would give you the curve.

Paul. You can do it by hand if you drive a couple of screws a couple of inches apart into some wood, clamp the wood in a vice, hook the trim over the screws, and pull on the trim whilst pressing down hard. Once you have a slight bend, slide the trim along a bit, and bend a bit more, and so on. Yes it will indent the trim on the back slightly, but that will not be seen when installed.

Thanks Dave for the tip using the screws. I'll do it that way. PJ

What did you use to cut the fabric away from the windows without damaging the plastic? How far back did you cut them? Is the outer fabric supposed to fold at the seam and go under the edge chrome strips? Mosses instructions I have don't show this. PJ

I used a scalpel, which worked, but its not the best tool. You need one of those forked seam rippers that you push along and leave no trailing fibres. I cut around the inside edge of the chrome strips, so the cut edge can be seen - just.

Thanks Dave, I was wondering if the fabric could be folded over and slid under the chrome strips for a cleaner look. One seam was sewn in crooked and there was no way to mount the frame without showing the seam on one end, reason for thinking of folding it over. The strips are a pain to get on anyway, so I didn't know if there was enough room to do this with the fasteners being so short. I'll see if it's feasible. PJ
