MG TD TF 1500 - Sidescreen hole in door
Hi Guys Just wondering how the hole for the sidescreen in the top of the door is finished on other TFs. Mine currently arnt drilled but each of my old doors are different. One is just a hole the other has an insert with a jagged top. My Mum mentioned water used to get into the door here and also wondering if anyone has this issue and how they soved it. Thanks Darryl ![]() |

There is a socket as the one on the left. I believe it screws in. Looks like both doors are in need of refurbishing! New sockets should be available though your sources and should be the same for TD and TF. I have not had the issue with water entering as we don't get as much rain here in California as your folks get. Cheers. |

Can't get these sockets at Moss UK or Brown and Gammons. Trying Hutson but may have to look at US. Surprised they weren't installed in the first place. |

One other function of the insert, the hole in it is offset so the rear of the side screen can be moved in and out a small bit. Cheers - Dave |

Thanks Dave. Do you have any idea where these van be got. Need to get them urgently as the car is heading for painting next week. |

Darryl, Anglo Parts Belgium has them, item 16. Part no. 141.118 https://www.angloparts.com/fr/catalogues/group/809?page=2 John |

Thanks John I have just ordered them. Really appreciate you sending me on the link. |

You put them in after painting. If you put them in before you have to mask them and then when you turn them you run the risk of cracking the paint. If you want to after painting you can carefully file the paint away on the edge of the opening so you don't flake the paint away when you screw them in. And don't put them all the way down either. It's OK to leave a small bit of the shaft showing. As Dave says you turn them so your side curtain shaft fits the best. One of those quirky fittings that's purposefully made not to be exact. BTW they should come to your chrome plated. |

Darryl, Brown & Gammons do have them https://www.ukmgparts.com/catalogue/td-midcat-6-td32-bonnet-fittings-door-fittings Item 29. Although it is not original, I have a brass washer under mine which prevents the paint flaking. Just nipped up and not tight. Regards Declan ![]() |

Mine are raised up by a couple of turns to get the sidescreens aligned properly. I had the originals rechromed. Dave H |

Most of the repro sockets I have seen have the hole centered, rather than offset, maybe that has been fixed over the years? Dave is correct that you can unscrew a little to fine tune sidescreen fit to the top. I strongly suggest making sure they thread in before paint, then carefully protect/mask the hole and threads so no paint fouls things. Don't even think about painting with them in place. George |

Very glad I asked the question now. Originally I thought it was just a hole! Thanks once again for all the great advice. |

I can confirm that the hole in the sockets from B&G is off-centred. Regards Declan |

So I guess I drill the hole with a slightly smaller drill bit and then start screwing these into the wood for a firm fit all before painting of course. Then take put to paint and reinstall once painted. Or is there a better way to do it. |

I put a nylon washer on mine after painting the car. I also put nylon washers under the lift the dot post to keep the paint from chipping. |

I bought a set of sockets from Moss five years ago. I've had this extra one sitting on my desk for five years. The eccentric is so small that until Dave mentioned it, I never knew it existed. I use the threaded shank to adjust the height of the side screen. Thank you Darryl for posting. Thank you Dave for the comment. I love this bulletin board. Mort ![]() |

I received two each of these inserts in a box with my car. Anyone know what the one on the bottom is for? Pretty wide range of adjustment for the brass on. Tim TD12524 ![]() |
