MG TD TF 1500 - Skyhook Owners - Throwout Bearing

I have the Steve Neal Skyhook 5-speed conversion, and I'm thinking my throwout bearing has gone bad. Makes noise in neutral, but goes away with slight pressure on the clutch. I can't seem to locate throwout bearings online for the Datsun 210. Plenty of B10/B210/B310 bearings, but no straight 210. I did read somewhere that the factory called the 210 transmission B310, but can't confirm.

So, while waiting for a response from Steve Neal, does anyone who owns one of these conversions know which throwout bearing I need to buy, and possibly where to get it?

Steve Neal stopped selling these a few years ago to health reasons. I wanted to buy one. Good luck getting a response:(

Paul, I've seen those. They list the B210, but not the 210 which is a different transmission. No idea if this one will fit.

Instruction sheet says NAPA N3055....this will cross reference to an SKF N3055 which I believe is just the bearing only.

If you go here you can see a few images of the complete assembly which I would be inclined to do.

LaVerne: Forgive my ignorance, but as the link provided does not take me to the link, and a search for SKF N3055 comes up empty, what do you mean by "the complete assembly?"

Also, is it possible to do this, or just replace the bearing, without completely removing the entire transmission? Is it possible to just slide it rearward enough to do it?

When you click on the link...click the 2010 1.5 engine

then the transmission and finally the release bearing and then you will see a variaty of offerrings

I did that LaVerne, but no #3055 listed and no pictures on those listed that show the "complete assembly." So, what is the "complete assembly?"

Thanks Steve. Yes, when I finally found my install instructions this morning, there it was listed. Napa seems to be out of stock, but Rock Auto has the SKF N3055 (5 remaining). Still wondering what LaVerne meant by the "complete assembly" though.

copied the page but the pictures don't come through.... the LNS and National with the DNB prefixes show the entire assembly...a couple other just show the bearing. Not a great picture but here is mine since I have engine out right now.

Here's the reply I just received from Steve Neal.

"the actual throwout bearing in the transmission is a NAPA N-3055. this bearing rides on the original modified throwout bearing carrier. this carrier consists of two parts: the inner part is what rides on the front snout of the transmission and pressed onto to that is an adapter sleeve onto which the actual throwout bearing is pressed. gentle heat may be necessary to separate the old bearing and the adapter sleeve as on some of them I used LOCTITE to achieve a secure fit."

LaVerne: Does this change what I need to order as far as the "complete assembly vs. just the bearing itself?

Sounds as if Steve modified the original carrier so you will probably just want the bearing
