MG TD TF 1500 - Smiths tach gearbox clamp screw
Does anyone know the screw size for the OEM Smiths tach gearbox clamp? |

If you mean the screw sticking out on the attached photo, it is 5 BA x 1/2 inch.

Thanks Lew! |

What about the tiny screw that attaches the coupler to the shaft sticking out of the gearbox? |

I know the screw in the repair kit from ASL does not fit the gear shaft |

Len For what it's worth I fitted a slightly larger clamp screw to the brass clamp to hold the gearbox tight to the mounting collar. On mine it would come loose and swing down and short out against the Dissy. Over the years the screw head had become worn and it was difficult to get it tight enough the next size screw with a stiff nut to go with it solved the problem So far :) I just drilled strait through the brass camp to get a clearance size. You would have to have really good eyes to see the change. |

Doug Pelton (From the Frame Up) lists the screw I referred to as a 6 BA x 1/2 inch. It may be that my original clamp was stripped out at some time and a larger replacement screw was fitted. |

Doug is correct, I checked an unmolested screw in the locking piece I have and it both measures, and goes through a 6BA die just iike it belonged there. "I know the screw in the repair kit from ASL does not fit the gear shaft" That is a 7BA screw - the discrepancy in the screw that you got from AS should be reported to them so they can get it corrected.
