MG TD TF 1500 - Sometimes.... it's something dumb
I hope this makes you smile. Last night while buttoning up the rear axle swap I replaced the rear brake lines and went to open up the MC prior to bleeding. I've owned this car for 4 months, but never noticed: ..... ![]() |

That thing is as rare as hens teeth. Not because its a 'down under model', but because it appears to be an original one with the stitching. You also have those diamond pattern brake pedal pads. How many miles are on this car? |

The fix is simple. Have someone lift up the pad and have eight friends move the car 180 degrees underneath it, then replace the pad. |

Chris, #29,350. 57,600 miles. Given the lack wear on so many other parts I think this is accurate. Better picture. I had another look to be sure, stitched. What's with the stitching and the pads? .... ![]() |

This stitching is the way the carpets in NA cars was done. It keeps the rubber well fastened to the carpet. Frankly is not really necessary. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_carpet.htm Anyway if you buy any reproduction you will find that the stitching slot is not longer presence. I 'enhancement' done by Al Moss way back in the 60's. I have seen a few very low mileage cars with this diamond pattern for the pedal rubbers. Today's reproductions are stripped which seems to OK too. There may have been two versions. ![]() |

It looks like the tabs on the pads are at the bottom in the red car, but look the same or close. .... |

Well given your footwell is upside down why would you not think your pedals would not be? :-) I suspect these may have been a popular aftermarket replacement. |

Note that the gas pedal roller does not appear well used . Mine was flat like a pancake. |

Mine was too, but it had 230k miles when I replaced it. This car at only 57k is barely broken in :-) |
