MG TD TF 1500 - Speedo Part Needed

If anyone has parted out a dished speedo I need the gear with shaft for the odometer. The one that I need is for the trip side but it appears that they might be the same for both sides?

There is a 2 on the gear side of the shaft. A complex part for sure as it has an offset spline that runs the lever that turns the cog on the trip dial.

Chris,
Those "Tufnol" gears are easily replaced by brass gears which can be silver soldered onto the shaft. They will outlive the next owner of you car! I can get you a set but the postage to USA is a bit eratic at the moment due to Covid postal restrictions so I cannot say exactly when you would receive them. I will order a few sets anyway to have them on stock as they are not that expensive.

The sort of thing where club members getting together an sourcing a 3D printer who be a great help. With cost coming down all the time to my mind an obvious way forward we should all consider.
JK Mazgaj

JK,
There are plenty of online 3D printing services which are quite reasonable. I use them all the time. The printer is not really the issue-they are quite cheap < 300€ to buy. I would buy one if I had somewhere to put it! The problem is creating the 3D drawings and the STL files required to print the parts in question. That is something I can help with as I do it every day to keep up practice being retired. I have the brass gears custom cut in the EU and I doubt if 3D printed plastic ones would be any cheaper. The brass gears work out at 10€ each selling price as I have to cover inter EU postage costs.

Contact Hugh Pite. I believe he will have some.

Quite correct LaVerne. Here is a picture of the gears.

Hugh: You have email.
Christopher Couper

Hugh has found the part I need. It turns out the gear can be easily removed by gently tapping the shaft from the gear side while supporting the gear on a open vice or socket. So the goal is to retain my shaft and to press a new gear onto it.

This and the “Oiling Tach and Speedo” threads have been excellent. Congrats Chris, Hugh, and all who contributed.
