MG TD TF 1500 - speedometer routing question
After the speedometer cable exits the firewall is it secured anywhere between the firewall and the gearbox? Tim TD12524 |

Should be a small metal strap attached at the scuttle brace bolt. |

Anyone happen to have a picture of the strap that Steve is talking about? Thanks Tim |

I have the feeling it is best to leave it loose down to the gearbox. I have a 5 speed (Datsun) and the exit from the Gearbox points directly at the chassis. It then goes round 90 degrees behind the pedal box and forward, up the scuttle and into a hole and on to the speedo. I left it loose to help stop the fluctuations of the speedo needle. :) Still get some. Just try to make the bends gentle. Rod. |

This poor quality pic shows where the speedo cable was originally attached to the cover of the pedal box. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

"shows where the speedo cable was originally attached to the cover of the pedal box" That will only work for right hand drive cars. Cheers - Dave |

That is so Dave. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Tim - I've seen the tach cable guide used for this purpose. Here's a pic. Lou VanK.

I also think there is the same clip/rubber bushing that is used on the tach cable that bolts on to one of the firewall bolts. Also, there may be at least one clip (same type as used for the brake lines and wiring harness) in the right frame rail. Due to some recent body work, it will be a while until I can go look. RHD totally different. George |

This is from TF 9052. The only attachment I see for the speedo cable is with a clip on the frame. ![]() |
