MG TD TF 1500 - Spin Off Oil Filter

I am thinking of turning up a spin off oil filter adapter for the TF. Does anyone know the size of thread for the inside of the pump casting. Is this one of the special metrics? Also what is the size for the spin off and which is the best filter to use. I have checked the archives and only USA numbers are quoted and I live in the UK. I have the conversion gear for my Myfotd so can cut either metric or imperial threads

Jan,
I have a note of the threads for the adapter between the aluminium ring and the pump somewhere but just can't find it at the moment.
I have attached a drawing of the aluminium part.
I am using a Motaquip VFL 101 filter.

Hi Declan,

Very prompt response as usual. I have now found from the Moss site that the threads are 3/4" x 12 tpi (pump) and 3/4" x 16 tpi (filter). This surprises me as I thought the pump would be metric x 1 pitch and the filter metric x 1.25.

I can buy an adaptor from the Octagon Club for £51 but I fancy making one myself.

Yes Jan,
3/4" x 12 which makes it good old Whitworth.
As far as I know the only other Whit thread is the adjuster bolt in the dynamo end plate.
The filter I use is Halfords HOF 200.

I have a 3/4 whit die but don't have a tailstock holder that big but can sort something out. Do you have the size of the thread for the filter. I suspect this will be a M18 x 1.25. If you don't I can buy a HOF 200 from Halfords and measure it.

3/4-16 is a very common inside thread for an oil filter. That is the thread on the Grunau adapter, and is the same on the adapter from Moss or from Butch Taras. Bud

Thanks bud. Looks like the adaptor boss is 3/4 whitworth by 3/4 UNF. Common sizes.

checked my spare filter. HOF 200 3/4 UNF.
