MG TD TF 1500 - Stainless Steel Thermostat Housings

I'm pleased to say that I have another shipment of stainless thermostat housings on hand, to fit TB, TC and TD engines. Only available from me, I have these lost-wax cast and machined in Australia.

These come complete with high-quality, beautifully-cast and finished stainless housing, stainless 180 degree Stant thermostat, stainless snap rings, stainless elbow screws and washers, a new elbow gasket and a FELPRO base gasket.

My thermostat housings are guaranteed for the life of your car, and are easily installed - use your elbow. Other thermostat housings available now are aluminum and VERY unsatisfactory, and begin to corrode as soon as they are installed. My stainless thermostat housing has the advantage of including a replaceable thermostat accessible from the top with snap-ring pliers, by removing only the top radiator hose.

I have previously sold every one of these housings I have had cast, and have received 100% positive feedback - for more information and details see this link: http://mgtrepair.net/Thermostat.html

The cost is $230, including US shipping; for foreign shipping please contact me.

These housings are a work of art....I waited six months for mine and it was well worth the wait. Larry

Thank you gentlemen - I try my hardest to put out the very best products for T-series cars, and I am extremely proud of these. They are a struggle to make and obtain, as lost-wax casting is time-consuming and painstaking. But they are worth it - I have had not a single complaint or problem!

I am happy to answer any questions.

Are they 304 SS, or? Just curious.

My materials sheet from the foundry shows them as 316 stainless, which I believe is marine grade with increased resistance to corrosion.

I'm saving my pennies, Tom. :)

Honestly, this is something you will not regret, Geoffrey. It is both beautiful and fully functional, and will never cause problems. If you ever want or need to change the thermostat, it's a breeze compared to the others on the market. All stainless and guaranteed!

What type of thermostat does it use? Sliding bellows or modern type?
Steve Simmons

It uses a modern Stant 180 stainless thermostat. The outlet hole of the housing is reduced in diameter so the engine still warms up well.

It's a beautiful piece Tom. Sadly, every time I think about getting one, something else pops up. It's just one of those things that if it ain't broke, don't worry about it yet...
Right now I'm still working through the engine rebuild, need to replace my steering column bushings, just replaced the battery and got a battery tender, and have at least two other projects underway (a fuel meter system and a security system, both just fun feasibility projects).
After that... I want to replace the thermostat and redo my heater connections.
Maybe this summer.

Will they fit an XPEG?
C Blackstock

Dumb question in my previous post. Just looked at my Moss catalog cooling system parts page for TC, TD, and TF. Oh, well, I still like my TF.

Got my SS housing in the mail yesterday Tom. The quality is exceptional, well worth the money.

316 Stainless an ideal choice. It is slightly different than 304 but within the same family. Either would be ideal (marine grade) and very anti-corrosive; the 316 having a slight anti corrosive edge on the 304.

There are a lot of things out there that are technically "stainless steel" but still rust. Some exhaust systems come to mind. I like to always ask. 316 and 304 are one of the best kinds of S.S. The best you can get for something like this, without getting into unnecessary aerospace (S.S.) alloy's that would have no benefit over 316 for a part like this, and just jack up the price.

304 is a bit softer, easier to machine and easier to work. This is the material of most (but not all) exhaust systems. I believe some of Manley Ford's are in 316, but weigh a ton!

316 is a superior stainless and a bit harder and contains 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. Having spent a career in the Pulp & Paper industry where 316 is used extensively for nasty corrosive hot solutions, etc., I can state that Tom has selected a premium material for his product.

You won't live to see this product fail!

Gord-
It is the 409 S.S. that exhaust systems are often made from, and people should be aware of. Not enough chromium in 409 and it will rust out after 8 years in Ohio. 409 is just fine for exhaust if you live where it doesn't snow, so no salt on the roads. Otherwise, 304 is the other most common S.S. for exhaust, and it will last 20 years in Ohio. You can tell if a system is 409 because it will not discolor from the heat like 304 and 316 do.

Thanks - a good tip.
