MG TD TF 1500 - Starter Cable Coupling Slips
Every so often I find that pulling the starter cable fails to engage the starter switch. Apparently the inner cable slips out of the coupling (Moss p/n 161-500) just enough to prevent starter switch engagement. Quick fix is to loosen the coupling screw, de-grease the inner cable, re-set it into the end of the coupling and re-tighten the scres. This seems to work for a few weeks and then it slips again. Has anyone found a long term solution to this problem? Thanks Mark Sherman 1953 TD shrmnmrk at gmail |

I sweat soldered the ends of my cables to keep them from fraying. It also give the set screw something to bite into. I haven't had a slippage problem Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

My cable is sold, not stranded, but I will give it a try anyway. Thank you, gents. Mark |

Mine's stranded as well. Will it fit into the coupling if you bend the cable back on itself so you have double the cable to bite into? |

Believe it or not my cable looks like its original. It is solid and stiff and about AWG15. I de-greased cable and tinned it with solder as Bill suggested. I cleaned and refurbished coupling and used blue Loctite on the bolts. Let's see if that holds. Thanks Bill, Dave and Kurt for your suggestions. Mark Sherman |
