MG TD TF 1500 - Steering rack & tie rods
So, I’m trying to get a tie rod off the steering rack of a 1950 TD. It isn’t budging, and I wanted to check if there’s something I’m missing before I go too far. To get the ball housing (with the 3 slots) off, I pry the edges of the lock washer up out of the slots, then holding the rack in a vise, turn the ball housing counter clockwise to loosen it. Just wanted to see if that’s correct or am I’m missing something? I doubt it’s rusty but I did soak it for a while in PB. Put a decent amount of force on it - seems like it should’ve moved by now…

Maybe this John Twist video will help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VbpAYr_lXo I took the easy way out on TF7211 years ago ... I bought a new rack & pinion from Moss. Currently about $400. Lonnie TF681 TF7211 |

I just now tried the link in Chris's post. Same result as you. Then I copied the link and pasted it into my browser. It worked. (Cyber gremlins) Lonnie TF681 TF7211 |

BTW the side admin found the bug that caused my post not to work and fixed it and the post. Thanks for reporting this error so it could be addressed. |
