MG TD TF 1500 - Strange Hub corrosion??
Does anyone know what caused this? I have had me wheels off several times since coming down to Florida and never seen any of this stuff before? It came off with a wire brush OK and I will put a thin smear of grease over it all to prevent air getting to the metal. But I have no idea what caused it? Rod ![]() |

Was any aerosol lube or cleaner used here? Has another mechanic worked on it recently? Reminds me a little of oven degreaser. Matthew. |

It looks to be in the area unprotected by the spinner threads or the wheel splines. It looks like lubricant which has degraded by exposure to air/humidity. If that is correct there is nothing to worry about as the cleaned metal appears unblemished. |

Well There is certainly a lot of humidity down here in Florida during the summer months, and it does look a lot like mildew? It was only on one of the rear wheels though. Just strange. Rod |

Does look like typical salt water air corrosion found in coastal areas (especially on boats) but if only on one wheel that would most certainly eliminate that unless as others have noted probably some aerosol either applied or not applied to that spline area. Maybe did one side and forgot the other? Randy |

Yeah, looks like salt corrosion, or a byproduct of a wheel cleaner perhaps. I wouldn't worry about it but would be curious what caused it. |
