MG TD TF 1500 - Stub axle wear
My TF1500 has wire wheels and there appears to be wear in the right hand side (UK nearside). Whilst awaiting a suitable puller having never removed same yet can anyone draw/picture a diagram of the layout I should expect please. Until removed will be unable to determine whether wear is in the drum or shaft but early indications it may well be the drum. If that is the case what remedy could be suggested whilst sourcing a replacement drum or shaft. |

Any movement is usually worn wheel bearings. The drum is fastened to the hub with nuts and is not involved with any movement. The hub is easily removed by putting spacers in the housing and using the spinner to extract it. If you use a puller be very careful as the drum is fragile. It is best to remove the drum (marking position) and pulling on the hub only Ray TF 2884 |

Thanks Ray. Not sure what you mean by "housing". Are you suggesting that once nut removed for example rod ( example socket extension) put on end of stub axle shaft and the spinner tightened up until hub and drum come off? Thanks for advice. Cheers Jan |

Following your advice Ray. Now off thanks. |

Glad that worked, built in extractor on wires. Spent the last 48 years finding easy ways of working on my TF. Ray |

Ray, this and other forums are a fountain of knowledge and save so much effort and I'm sure heartache. |
