MG TD TF 1500 - SU float bowl mounting rubbers

I am having a heck of a time with the mounting runners on my H 4s. Carbs were gone through earlier this year and the leaked. Changed to the MGA style mountings and they leaked. Went back to the MK II mountings with new seals and thought I had the problem licked. Now after doing a tear down to clean the goo out of my carbs from race fuel setting up I put them back on the car and there leaking again. What the heck is going on.? No cuts, abrasions and the mating surfaces are all clean. Anybody else had this problem? What was your fix.? I tried Permatex im the past to no avail Guess I'll be ordering a dozen just to have on hand.

Dont deal with Moss go to Berlin direct, you will know you have purchased quality and you will have recall if there is an issue.

I would be optimistic that you have ruled out Ethanol as the culprit.

I have learnt over the years where ever possible to go to original manufactures for components, there is too much shonky rubbish in the market place.

Try lubricating the rubber parts. I've cured gushers just by wetting the o-rings with fuel and re-installing. This includes the jet assembly rubber.

Gents,

I was surprised at how uneven the mating surfaces of the carb and float assembly were. A few strokes with 400 grit paper on a sheet of glass revealed they were not flat. I worked them flat as you would a copper washer in the brake system. Then used the hard fiber gaskets, red in color but I can not remember where I got them. No leaks since and apart for cleaning (ethanol) several times.

Bill I had issues at one time with the same thing. What I finally realized is that there are a couple of different mounting bolts and that the gaskets cannot be interchanged. The T series gets the combination hard fiber stuff and the mounting bolt gets snugged up tight. The later ( I assume) MGA style has a shoulder that will only go so far and is designed to be used with the rubber type gasket. My problem ...but not nesassarily yours... was that I was using the early bolt with the rubber gasket and I was over compressing the gasket causing it to split and of course spill the fuel. I doubt the later type bolt will seal the fiber gasket with the shoulder affair.

Just something to look at.
