MG TD TF 1500 - SU H2 Master Rebuild Kit from Moss

Hi,

I just got my Master Rebuild Kit from Moss Motors, the throttle shafts are much longer than the originals. I contacted them and they said it is SOP to cut the shafts to the correct length and drill the pin hole for the idle levers. Has anyone else had to do this when rebuilding your carbs?

It is SOP. Punch out the lever bel ranks with a hard punch. Screw the shafts back to back with their replacements. Trim with a hacksaw in a vise, and burnish (chamfer) on a grinder.

Install the shafts and throttle discs and slip the belcranks in place. Screw in the throttle stop screws. Carefully drill the holes for the belcranks in place.

Frankly, that operation I tend to leave that part if the operation to those with the proper equipment, especially considering that the bodies probably need to be bushed, as well.

Dave is being modest, but he can do it for you for a fee. Or there is always Joe Curto.

Steve,

The information from Dave B is good, however the position of the lever on the shaft is critical.

Thanks for the feedback, I talked to Joe Curto and he's going to help me out, sending the carb bodies and parts for him to get the throttle shafts and associated bits and pieces installed. A lot cheaper and faster than a full carb rebuild and I know he'll do a stellar job compared to what I would have hodge podged together. Cheers!

And just for anyone who does not know, for quite a while (maybe still) Moss has been selling H2 kits with the gland washers that are too thick. When put together using these extra thick washers, it will be near impossible to properly adjust out the richness of the mixture caused by said washers. That can be very frustrating if you don't know about it.

Although when I was in Army Aviation we preferred FUBAR and SNAFU.
