MG TD TF 1500 - sump to be painted or not?
Well, probably discussed before... Should I paint the sump of my engine or not and leave it bare metal? What is common these days? Please advice. I know original they were painted but I am in doubt... |

All factory pics I've ever seen show them painted engine color, MG red. The finned cast aluminum, particularly on the TC & late TD/TF looks great detailed out and then laquer finished. Just the way I've done it for fourty years, but to each his own I guess. I saw one at Hershey AACA painted bright 'safety yellow' years back, everyone laughted. FOG |

If you leave it unfinished it will definitely stain. So it has to be painted either with your favorite color or clear. |

This has indeed been discussed before...: I left the aluminum parts unpainted. I used Flexa Steenrood which is a very close colour match and proving to be very durable in use and oil and temperature resistant (and readily available from any Dutch paintshop!) ![]() |

Your choice, but I painted mine. PJ![]() |

I used a high temp aluminum to paint mine. Easy to clean and looks good. |

Oops. I said Steenrood in a previous post, but it is Koraalrood (1033) |

many thanks for your reply. I go for originality and paint the sump in red. |
