MG TD TF 1500 - Supercharging spark plug choice
I am about to install the Moss supercharger to my 52 TD, I've read that you need a colder plug...I currently run NGK B6HS plugs (short reach) does that mean I should switch to NGK B7HS? Has anyone who supercharged gone to a colder plug? I've also read that you should decrease the gap, is that true? |

Bob, I used N3s on my Marshall-blown TD, or one range colder than standard. I trust you have solid state ignition and a good, healthy coil (30,000 volts). Don't be afraid to open the gap to .035 Today's fuels have qualities that promote quick ignition. A far cry from what I had to deal with! Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué |

I run NGK 8's in both of my supercharged MG's which would be the equivilent to the Champion N3's . No reason to change the gap unless you have updated the ignition system in which case you can open it up. I would highly suggest that you send off the distributor to Jeff @ Advanced Distributors and have it recurved for the super charger. |

I try to go with platinum tip plugs which are superior for spark and are inherently colder. |

LaVerne, Are they BP8ES or B8ES. Thanks, Jim |

I'd have to go look Jim. |

L.E.D's suggestion of having the dizzy recurved is a good one. Alternatively, it could be retarded a bit. The higher the boost (or higher the compression ratio) the less advance is needed. Bob |
