MG TD TF 1500 - Sway bar for TF

Have any of you had experience with installing an MGB swaybar on a TD or TF? I am told that the preferred diameter of the bar should be 9/16". Are their down sides to the set-up?

I would appreciate your suggestions.

Have you checked the archives? I am positive that your every question on the subject will be answered there.

Just searching "MGB" and "swaybar" will probably give you a dozen threads.

I have one for my TF that I haven't installed yet, but saying that, every report I've read about installing them is positive, I'll install mine this winter. Supposedly less roll on sharp corners. PJ

Anti Roll Bar over here. Easy job, but look at LaVerne's guide on YouTube to make it even easier. The std ARB fom an MGB does it - ideally buy the whole caboodle from a guy with an MGB, who wants to fit a thicker one. The MGB drop links can be used as they are, but I think they are better shortened (less crossover issues with the steering rods). Well worth doing.

Using the MGB spring pan assemblies will make it a lot easier and it will definitely make the handling better.

I've done 4 of them now. All MGB parts. The video has an error that I cannot correct. The large surface of the gusset should be on the lower side.

Improves the handling a great deal. Only down side is if working on a TF, dealing with the horns.

I have done a lot of modifications on my TF and if I could only do one...this would be it.

Thank you all for your comments. Bud and LaVerne the videos are excellent. They show the steps clearly so that even I can understand the process. I think I will wait until the late fall months when I am not driving the car much to tackle the project.

LaVerne, I think I can edit the video to correct the gusset issue. This move has me backed up in terms of things I plan to do. Bud

As for the horns, I switched to modern Audi two tone horns. They have the same interval as the Lucas high low horns but do so in a MUCH smaller package. The chord is slightly higher (or lower... it's been a while since I've heard my orriginals) than the Lucas ones, but not to a notable amount. I made small flexible mounts (the horns have to flex slightly for the diaphragm to sound) and used the bolts that hold the steering rack to the frame. It was a very simple mod and one I find d to be quite unobtrusive.
