MG TD TF 1500 - T D Windscreen Timplate
I seem to recall someone on the list had or has a template for reproducing a TD windscreen. If possible I would like to borrow it for the glass guy to reproduce one for me that will fit properly. Thanks Ed Stanfield 120 Whitwood Circle Columbia, SC 29212 |

Ed, I don't have the template for the whole windscreen glass, but I do produce the mask and kit for etching the proper logo on to the glass. I do them for pre-war MGs, as well as TDs and TFs. I do not do them for TCs as there are way too many designs. $35 for the kit. Email me if interested at lew (at) roundaboutmanor (dot) com |

Ed I made a template from a piece of ribbed cardboard then had the laminated glass cut to size. See pic which shows the finished glass protected with duct tape & with the edges painted black. The glass has been relieved at the corners & also for the wiper wire & fittings. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Ed. Look at this post. http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2013103117264325403 U did get a pattern from Patrick Earles. The pattern never came back from the glass cutter. (My daughters old (as in Ex) boy friend), BUT before it went to him I had three copies made at Staples. There are three mating sections on "B" size paper. I would be happy to send you a set. Just send me your address at mgtd51@cweizon.net. Now two other things. 1) The printing process may have shrunk the copies a bit. Its never quite exact. From my experience adding 1/8" to the short dimension would not create a problem. 2) Modern glass is metric and thinner than the original. The older glass is fractional and wider. The older glass is still available. If you get the fractional dimensioned glass, use the packing from Moss. If you get the newer metric glass use the packing from Abingdon. The Abingdon packing did not fit the older glass well. Jim B. |

Ed I meant to add that making your own template & test fitting it into your assembled frame ensures that your glass will be a perfect fit. Prior to having the glass cut I'd strongly recommend checking the material for scratches & once satisfied then ensure the glass is covered with some protective material to prevent any damage during cutting. DAMHIK. Having just recently completed my windscreen I tried the Moss rubber on my metric glass but as Jim says it was way too tight. I also tried some rubber from Clark Rubber here but the closest thickness was a bit too loose. The best method for me was to use black polyurethane windscreen sealant. This gave me a perfect result & I was even able to chamfer the edges slightly to aid in shedding water. The black paint not only protects the edges of the laminate from condensation damage but also hides the interior of the frame. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
