MG TD TF 1500 - T Numbers Database
I am maintaining a database of T series cars. It's a hobby and the database can freely be shared by everyone or posted on any website. No need to give me credit. If you would like to add or modify information in the database just let me know. Feel free to share the database with anyone owning or interested in T Series cars. The different models can be accessed by clicking on the tabs at the left bottom of the page. The database is located at his Dropbox address.

Hi Tim - a great resource. Is there a search function? - it could help me to trace the original block for my '53 TD which has a much earlier block fitted. I've owned the car since 1984 and it's a keeper; it was in Melbourne for years in the 60s/70s but I've had no luck so far. Thank you. John. |

Tim TD0460 - please update the country to Richard Wilson, Alberta. Canada Thanks Richard TD0460 |

Hi John What’s the engine number of your (earlier) block? David |
David Wardell |
John, I can search the actual Excel database but I don't believe the Dropbox copy can be searched. If there was a way to up load the database here I would do so in order that everyone could download it. If you give me your original engine chassis number I'll search the DB for your original engine. Richard, change made. Thank you. Was Jim Adams the previous owner? Tim |

Tim, plese add TD 10879 EXLNA, XPAG/TD2/LHX1127 owned now by Peter S. DeJong in Landrum, SC, USA, to your list. The car has recently been returned to its original Autumn Red. The car was purchased by Peter last year from Robert Bishop. The owner's manual also has the name "R.L. Carroll, Greenville, SC. Carroll may have been the owner prior to Bishop. If anybody knows any history on this car, please let me know. Thanks. Jud ps: Any other lists are welcome to pick up on this information. |

Tim, I have discovered a TF 1500 that is not on your list for sale on ebay UK at what appears to be a good (UK) price. It is TF 6877. If my health was better I would certainly consider buying it. Maybe I can convince my mate! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1954-MG-TF-LEFT-HAND-DRIVE-RUNNING-RESTORATION-Cabriolet-Petrol-Manual/223933755896?hash=item34237df1f8:g:UG8AAOSw3fFeUWDm Regards Declan |

It is interesting to note that the description for this TF1500 says the engine is a 1250cc There may be more to this story... Rick |
R.T. Walsh |
Rick, I hadn't noticed that -you could be right! Regards Declan |

The engine number is an XPAG number on the tag on firewall. Peter |
P G Gilvarry |
The car guarantee plate looks OK and gives its original XPAG 1250 engine, and car and engine number show it's not a 1500. The car code looks to be HDP, and if that's correct, it was originally an ivory car. The T Register last knew of the car in 2014 when it was in the USA. David |
David Wardell |
Jud, information added. Thank you. Could you possibly get the body numbers for the car? Tim |
Timothy Burchfield |
Declan, thanks. Information entered per guarantee plate and eBay description. Tim |

Hi Tim, can you sent me your email address off line? I have a small xl file I would like to forward to you to be added to your listing. Thank Ed Stanfield |

David: the much earlier block is stamped 5970, and the brass plate below that shows the same. The id plate on the firewall shows: Car No TD/28584 EX/R Engine No. XPAG/TD2/28962. Ray Skewes in Melbourne did the engine work for me in about 1991, but I believe the previous owner, Paul Malone, must have had the engine swap - for whatever reason. I would love to know if the block stamped 28962 still exists! John. |
J P Hall |
Hi John The information on the firewall for the original engine for your TD is correct - TD/28584 EXR, engine no XPAG/TD2/28962, built 17 June 1953. The TD which originally had engine number 5970 was - TD/5598 EXR, engine number XPAG/TD/5970, built 22 January 1951. Unfortunately we do not have a record of the present existence of engine number XPAG/TD2/28962. David |
David Wardell |
Thanks for that, David - I feared as much in respect of engine 28962, but I'll keep my eyes open. I'm guessing it was damaged beyond repair and ended up in pieces down in Melbourne in the 60s. The earlier engine has performed faultlessly since rebuild in 1990, plus has the later oil pump. Sometimes you just have to leave well alone! John. |

Tim Yes, Jim Adams was the PO. I purchased the car from him about 12 years ago. Richard TD 0460 |
