MG TD TF 1500 - Taper pin install in clutch release fork
Can anyone explain proper installation of the taper pins in the throw out fork shaft? They protrude proudly on both ends. I have scoured the archives but come up short on this one. Do I cut them and then peen the thin end? I don't want to screw this up. They were quite a pain to remove the first time. Thanks , Sandy |

Good day Sandy. Take a look at www.emerson.com/resource/blob/125214/.../d103982x012-data.pdf Butch |

Thank you Butch. Thank you Lonnie. I never would have thought of that. Quite simple actually. A question for Butch if I may hi-jack this thread momentarily: you rebuilt my water pump a couple of years ago. Is the grease fitting still usable and necessary? Not sure what magic you performed in there. Thanks again, Sandy |

Hello Sandy the bearings are sealed. So the grease fitting is just for looks now. Butch |

I had so much trouble with the taper pins that I ended up using roll pins. They are a lot easier to deal with. Some say not to use them, others say it's okay. They seem to work just fine, although I'm still in the low miles category. Jim |

Jim, I would be OK using tooth pics in there if I were in Hawaii. Can't think of a better place for a break down. But actually, roll pins should work fine if installed correctly. They just locate the fork from sliding. The keyway does the heavy work. Sandy in Coldecticut. |

The replacement shafts don't even come with the hole for the pin. Regards Declan |
