MG TD TF 1500 - TC/TD/TF Strikers
It seems that the early TD may have been fitted with the narrow TC striker & was subsequently replaced with the wider version as fitted to the later TD and TF. Pics of both the wide & narrow types are shown below. Can anyone confirm if this is the case & if so when was the likely changeover date? Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

I’ve never noticed this before. I’ll have to go through my old ones to verify on TD-4834 and TD/c-8151. Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

TD3042 (August 1950 build) always had the wider striker. The narrow one was most certainly used on the TC and the late Triple-M cars Ps and Ns. |

This may be a pic of an original TD although I'm not sure? I think it came from Matthew M. It has the narrow strikers. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

TFs had the wider striker plate base. i thought TDs also had the wider striker, however perhaps the very early TDs were fitted with the narrow, weaker TC striker. Some changes did occur over time. for example the TF 1250s had slot head Door Hinge bolts whereas the later TF1500s changed to Phillips Head bolts. Of course many of these components have been changed over from original by previous owners during the cars life. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Peter, your copied image shows the A pillar trim panel with a wider space for the wider striker plate. someone has fitted a TC striker to this car. My parts books do not show any other part number than the wide striker. All the TD's I have had in and seen including one of the first production cars TD's that was in New Zealand had wide striker plates. |

Old Abingdon catalog shows narrow TC and wide TD, factory spec book only one for TD. Look at the pair of pictures: what is the ID plate in front of the latch? In the lower picture, I think the seat adjustment bracket is shaped wrong for a TD, and the SC box closing strap is horizontal with a lift the dot rather than the correct vertical with snap. Not sure the picture is from a TD, or perhaps one custom bodied TD or something? George |

Thanks to you all for your posts. It seems certain that the narrow striker is for the TC & the wider one is for both the TD & TF. I can now proceed to make & cover the front quarter panels with confidence. George, Matthew should be able to shed more light on the pic in question as I think he took it. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter I looked at my original strikers off of TD-4834 and they were indeed the wide base strikers. And the plates are wide based as well. I have looked at my other cars as well, all wide based. Bill Chasser TD-4834 TD/c-8151 TD/c-16920 TD-19408 TD-24060 |
