MG TD TF 1500 - TCP Global paint products(?)

Has anyone used TCP Global for MG restoration paint. They claim to have excellent color matches based on OEM MG color chips in modern formulas from 1950 forward. They even list colors both Bruce and I have been researching. I called them to see if they would provide a spray out card. Their answer was, “NO!” The smallest amount of color comes in a pint at $80 plus catalyst and reducers. An expensive outlay just to obtain a usable sample. Just curious if anyone has used them for other MG colors and what they thought of their product lines. The only product that they will sell me in CA is a Low VOC Urethane basecoat. But then you use the usual clear over it which seems so stupid. But they do offer acrylic enamel, urethanes and lacquers and Hi VOC basecoats as well...outside CA. Thank you Ca legislatures in your infinite stupidity.

I called them about the Almond Green color. I think quart was the min size they gave me. Acrylic lacquer I could walk in the door and have it the same day as long as I had an out of state address. Acrylic urethane give them a weeks notice... quart size about the same price....no reducers needed which tells me I wasn't getting a quart of color. Local paint shop called and asked for the formula...they said nope.

I passed.

In July of last year I requested and received a Almond Green spray out card from them for my 1954 TF. The cost was about $35. If anyone would like to use it, I am happy to forward it, but would like to have it returned.

Those are the guys I have had the link to for years on the finish pages. Never used them

You have to select AHMG for the car type.

Okay thanks everyone. But I want to hear from anyone who has actually used their products. Particularly anyone who does their own paintwork... firsthand experience. I want to know what they thought of their product lines, what paint type they used, the quality of the finish, how TCP color compared to an original paint finish (only). I’m not interested in comparisons to previously refinished paint jobs as I want to get an idea of how close they actually replicate their formulas and of particular interests would be the iridescent finishes such as SSG, Sun Bronze, Almond Green and also their MG Red and Autumn Red.

I’m trying not to spend a fortune on samples to find out the paints are not a very close match to the original formulas. I have an original 1949-50 MG/Riley/ Wolsey Paint Chip book being sent to me, on loan and via a very tight leash, by a close friend. With it we can have the definitive answers for most colors related to early TD production. A 1952 factory chip book was also known to exist a few years ago but contact has been lost between my source and that individual. Unfortunately, SSG isn’t in this book as it came later in 1951. Disappeared for a brief moment and was reintroduced in 1952 several other MG colors came and went and came back again during the TD production cycle and my friend has factory documentation in his library support this claim.

Dave. Do you remember who you talked to as I was told yesterday they would not do spray outs when talking to sales/ tech

JK Barter in Maine used them for the paint on his TF. He frequents the board. Lacquer on his, which is where I got the contact info from.
