May not be news to some but interesting to me is the differences is a few of the bits compared to later cars. For instance the rear head plate,

Also the bypass neck fitting. Brass compared to the later cast iron. Like several of the parts on the cars I assume that scrap brass was abundant following WWII and as the supply dwindled it became cheaper to make the parts in steel or cast iron.

LED, interesting. The "new" bypass neck fitting that I got with the new thermostat housing from Tom Lang is brass just like the one in your picture. The one I replaced (original for all I know) is some kind of nonmagnetic pot metal. For reasons that I can't fathom, the PO plugged it off - maybe because it was a San Diego car that didn't need the bypass to warm up the engine. Jud ![]() |

On my TD 4490 nov 21 1950 there is a brass fitting. but I have not the original engin witch should be xpag td 4806. the present engine now is xpagtd 29 The car was registered in CA on 00/00/51license number FGG609 as xpag 4806 owner bayley steven robert sunnyvale CA. sold 05/23/75 to Michael john and margaret Jane FREMAN San jose CA Thoralf NORWAY TD 4490 |
