MG TD TF 1500 - TD clock
Hello, Since I am doing my Sunday morning peek at this website..Who is currently doing the stock TD clock repair. I had mine done years ago and it was just shy of atomic clock accuracy for several years. “Whisker” appears to be in good condition. I have not done any troubleshooting yet, so I have not verified the integrity of the power supply to the clock, which I will do before I send it off. Thank you. Regards, Tom |

Probably just needs a clean Tom. The Clocks for Classics kit is both expensive and irreversible. I got mine going again without too much trouble. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Peter, that is a thought, however it really was only a few years ago..and very few miles driven with the car housed in a clean garage, that ithe clock was serviced...so I did not consider that as a primary cause. I will consider your advice. Thanks to all posters. Regards, Tom |

Tom if you email me I'll send you a 'how to'. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I would check the coil for continuity, it should be around 8 ohms. Then I would clean the points. What is often overlooked with a clock that runs for a few minutes/hours and then quits is the gearing for the hands. It does not take much fouling of the gears or unwanted friction to stop the clock. This can be very annoying since the clock will run for several hours and when the gears get in a certain position they bind slightly and the clock stops. Hugh Pite |

I fixed mine few years ago. Fixed the coil that was open circuit and then a good clean up. Tiny dirt was spotted on both small worms thanks to a powerful magnifier. Then contact to be adjusted. There is already an overvoltage protection for the contact thanks to a parallel resistor. I think it was the green spacer on Peter's photo. So take care in the measurement not to measure this parallel resistor. Probably few kohms. Laurent |
