MG TD TF 1500 - TD Gearbox Expert Help

I have been looking for a really good used Cluster Gear for my transmission rebuild. So far, every one I've seen pictures of with offers to sell has fairly heavy pitting on the small straight cut 1st gear. I'm reluctant to install a gear with this damage in a gearbox I'm rebuilding with other wise new parts.

If anyone has a good TD Cluster Gear for sale, please contact me through my email.

The question I have for any experienced gearbox rebuilder is What can be done to prevent this pitting damage so prevalent in our TD gearbox?

There are 3 on EBay now....with the more expensive one looking pretty good. It has been listed before, so Seller may accept a lower offer. There was a NOS one still in the Box a couple months ago. I think it was priced around $1K. Those 1st Gears are usually pretty rough.

Mike those are all pretty good examples of what I'm talking about. Not what I would be very content with using.

I don't think it can be prevented. Due to no syncro, the blunt force of shifting while parts still spinning causes grinding and the chips. I guess you can minimize by waiting a bit after depressing the clutch, or briefly touching second, but that is not so good when the traffic light turns green. George
