MG TD TF 1500 - TD Glovebox Stop

I'd ordered some parts from AS including a pair of glovebox hinges, a gasket for the ignition switch, a ball catch for the glovebox door & a glovebox door stop. They arrived a couple of days ago & I'm more than pleased with the quality. As I've never seen one before does anybody know how & where the stop is fitted? Cheers

Well, I can't say it is exactly as the factory did it, but mine is fitted on the upper portion of the glove box opening behind the ball catch.

Center top. Sticks down about 1/8 to 3/16". Hard to see in this picture.

Thanks Chris. Is it fitted to the rear of the dash or the front of the sub dash? I'm guessing the former. (Odd looking glovebox. The oval back is very strange as is the fit at the front). Cheers

The box is a Moss repo from late 60's

Surprised to see that the door stop I purchased from AS is now covered with a fine film of rust. I guess I can remove the rust with steel wool or sandpaper & maybe give it a coat of clear lacquer. Did the original rust? Or was it painted - if so was it black - or was it made of stainless? Cheers

Peter, I still have the original fascia board from Lazarus. The stop screw holes are visible on the rear face of the outer board as is the outline of the stop. Bud

It was the typical black'nd steel. I suspect AS did not treat it at all if it was shiny steel when you got it.

Thanks Bud. I believe the stop from AS is the correct dimension & thanks to info provided by Joe a while back I know where & how it was attached. Appreciate the info Chris. I have a blackening kit so I'll get to work, though I have found that with spanners, original bolts & nuts I've blackened previously, over time rust does seem to appear. Perhaps I'll also make up a couple in stainless while I have the AS one on the bench, just in case, as so very little of it is actually visible. See Joe's pic above. Cheers

Here's another picture of the stop. There's very little of it exposed. It's blackened somehow, but after 64 years it's hard to tell if it's paint or not. Whatever it is it's worn off on the lower left corner which is shiny bare metal.

A neighbour was tossing out a SS sink so I cut off a strip along the edge. Now have 4 door stops, the hero & three spares. Thanks to all. Cheers
