MG TD TF 1500 - TD Hood/Bonnet

I am breaking in my newly rebuilt engine on my TD. I have been driving around without the hood to make access easier. Even on the hottest days my wife's comment was that the foot compartment seemed much cooler. I'm sure it's because the hood is off.

I am thinking about removing the side panels of the hood and just running with the tops. Any advice on the pros and cons would be appreciated. Also if anybody has a photo of the TD with just the top of the hood and not the size I would appreciate.

I believe when this is done straps are required to hold down the top. Might somebody have a picture of this setup?

Any advice on how to remove the side panels would also be appreciated.

TIA,
Mort

Mort - I remember in the 50s in Southern California, seeing TC and TD running with the side panels off. They just ran leather straps across the top pieces of the hood (with a strip of sheep skin between the hood and the strap. The straps were attached to the hood securing loops on each side of the hood. Cheers - Dave

Mort;
I thought I sent this last night.

The side panel to bonnet connection is like a piano hinge.
Just pull the long rod out and the panel will come off.
As I remember my originals, or non originals were steel and rusted. It took some effort to get them out.
I would suggest to SPARINGLY use some light machine oil. Work the rod back and forth to loosen it. I am under the impression they should be brass, I put back brass.
Its best done with the bonnet assembly off the car and standing on end

MORT,
I was also running with out the bonnet,, for the same reason,,, I have since put it back on,,
My concern would be more of a security issue,,
With as much driving as you do, leaving the side panels off would surely attract more visual attention, and possibly more "hands on" attention by people you don't know ???
