MG TD TF 1500 - TD Ignition wires
I am looking for replacement ignition wires and nuts. Currently I have bumblebee wires I purchased from Moss Motors some time ago. (Pictures shown) I like the yellow wires compared to the stock black wires because I think they dress up the engine compartment a bit. I believe the nuts I am currently using are the original stock nuts used from the factory? Anyway I think they are junk and would like to upgrade to something that holds the wire ends to the plugs/distributor more securely. I have seen some red wires listed on eBay before that look similar to the wire I have going from my distributor to my coil. I cannot find them now. Any direction you guys could provide would be great. Keep in mind I am using the original distributor cap with the screw in nut. There must be an adaptor?
Thanks in advance, Rich ![]() ![]() |

Can't help you there, Rich. I'm just wondering if you have any oil in that engine. That is the absolute cleanest TD engine that I have ever seen!! Or, is that a photo that you took before you put any oil into it? Bud FYI, Abingdon Spares, in their latest flyer has new Champion Spark Plug Ends. ![]() |

Bud, I am very particular about my car. It has oil in it and I drive it. I just detail it often. For me that is a big part of the fun! Thanks for the reply. Rich |

Jim I think those are the ones! Thanks for the info. I think with Bud's wire ends and those wires I might be a happy camper! Thanks, Rich |

I got my wires from Brillman, used crimp on ends with rubber boots from Brillman. Found the tool online, goes in a vise to crimp the ends. I got the distributor ends from Abingdon Spares. Easy to make up. Peter |

Hi Rich, that is indeed a clean engine. I’m wondering what the pipe going along side the valve cover is. Don’t have that on my car. An interior heater maybe? Thanks, Tom |

Your guess is right on, Tom. That is a copper pipe bringing the hot water to the heater. Rich sure does it up well. Bud |
Bud Krueger |
Tom, Bud is correct. The copper pipe attached to the valve cover is for my heater. I decided to dress that side of the motor up a little with the copper. The other side just has a black rubber hose. |

Hey Bud or anyone else. Did some research on cables and ends today. Not sure how this type of end attaches to the wire. What is the deal with the screw? Thanks, Rich ![]() |

Rich, the screw goes into the wire in the center of the cable. That's how the spark current gets to the plug. |

OK guys, I have gathered the supplies needed to upgrade my ignition wires. Here is a before and after. Thanks for all the help! This forum is awesome! Rich ![]() |
