Peter - At least you have your priorities straight :-) Cheers - Dave |

I was overruled by the little woman in 1976 when we bought a house without a garage so it's now come back to haunt her :-) Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Did eldest son decide to live with GF before or after the TD moved in? David |

It wasn't a hint to get him to move on Dave. He went before I took his room over. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

In the USA we have basements, mine is fairly full, but I am sure I could use some space if I had to in a pinch. |

LOL Peter! Reminds me of working on my TD back in the 70's in my apartment, sans GF of course! Randy ![]() |

When I was a young boy living in a very working class part of Lancashire it was not uncommon for motorbikes to be stored in the living room overnight. I must admit to lapping valves into a cylinder head whilst sitting watching 1960s black and white TV programmes. I once cleaned all the chromium plating off a radiator surround with emery paper in the warmth of the living room - it took several weeks. I suspect many have heard tales of teenagers washing the engine block from their first car in their mother's bath. The closest I have come to this (recently) is to wash all the TF's engine parts in hot soapy water in the sink in the outhouse. You would be amazed at the amount of grit this removes, even from solvent degreased parts. Jan T |

I recall rebuilding my Triumph 2000 sedan's cylinder head on our kitchen table back in college. My girlfriend/roommate was not impressed. |

Wandering off thread I know but Jan your mention of removing chrome with emery paper feeds into my wondering if caustic soda would affect chrome. I have some ignition switch bezels that I needed to remove the baked on black paint from & wondered if it would affect the chromed rims which are still in great condition. I just discovered that Google suggests caustic soda is a great way to remove chrome so I'll avoid the caustic, mask off the rim & clean the flat surface with emery. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I did a 1952 VW engine on the kitchen table in 1960. Bud |

Hi Peter, Hot caustic will strip off most type of oil bound paint (great car it is dangerous stuff!!!) but will not attack chrome. I think platers strip chrome using caustic as an electrolyte but this is total different to simply soaking. Why not clean your bezels with normal paint stripper. Jan T |

I have to say how does the wife take to this endless expansion :) |

When she occasionally arcs up I just gently remind her that I've had the car longer than I've been with her & she seems to understand.. :-) Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
