MG TD TF 1500 - TD Lug Nut Wrench
Poking through the tool box of my recently acquired 53, I find that I have a Lug Nut wrench from an older TD that does not fit my 53's nuts. Are the later ones ever available on EBay or other sources. Looking at Chris' amazingly detailed site, I can see that the correct one would have the ridges or stepped profile. I can't see myself ever actually using it, but would be nice to get the right one.

I have some originals of both types. Happy to swap yours for one of mine. You just pay for the shipping. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, thanks very much for the offer. If I can track one down here in the USA that would be great! I'll be in touch if nothing closer shows up :-) |

I'll be happy to buy your early lug wrench as well. Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

I may have one, will be a few days until I can look. George |

Folks, do not accept the idea that you can tell the size of a TD lug wrench by the shape of the socket end. You have the measure the opening. I suspect that multiple vendors were used to supply the wrenches. I have seen the non-stepped wrenches in both sizes, 7/16W and 3/4SAE. Assure that the opening is correct before you put your money down. That reminds me that I have to update a page on Ttalk, http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/TD_Lug_Wrenches.htm . Bud |

Good point Bud. Measure the diameter of your lug nuts, and when I find it I'll check the size. George |

I will do that. To be honest this will be more for show than anything else. Talk about getting into the minutiae!! Thanks for all the input. |

My wheel nuts are 3/4" just measured and a 3/4" socket fits them. So the nuts are correct for the car. |

Looks like I may have found myself the correct wrench on the MGEXP buy and sell forum. I am quite happy about this as I think I now have the complete tool kit for the car. I just need to convince the wife to make me a period correct tool roll :-) Actually no, I don't have a King Dick Jack, the one I have with the car sort of looks like one, but isn't. |
S Griffin |
King Dick was not the sole supplier of jacks. I have what I believe to be the original jack from dad's TD/c 8151 that he kept along with some of the original tools when he sold the car ca 1954-55. I also found a Lucas light bulb can for spare bulbs. When I return home I can send a photo. I don't know the maker. Never paid much attn to it Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

Shelly also made the jack for the TD. See pic below. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Hmm, now I want to go home and look at my jack more closely. |

Thanks Peter. That's the one Cheers Mate Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

I found my stepped wrench which crudely measures 3/4" It is also too small for my early style lug nuts. Let me know if the one you found does not work out. George |

Bill, is this similar to the light bulb can holder you have? Tim TD12524 ![]() |

Thank you George, I have not received the one I purchased yet, will let you know. Simon |
