MG TD TF 1500 - TD Opening up radiator grill slats – how much?
Hello, I am facing some overheating problems at speed. I have new pump, radiator and engine block cleaned, new modern thermostat with restricted bypass pipe…. I plan to go for a MGB plastic fan that I store for years, (even though this will not help except at idle or low speed). I suspect of a retarded timing. However, given the sensible recommendation of opening up the radiator grill: Do you think that the slats in the picture below are too closed? Thanks for your responses. Jesús ![]() |

I think your slats are not too closed and you need to look elsewhere. Are you sure your mixture and timing are correct? |

Thanks Christopher. No, I am not sure. I need to fine tune timing and richness. Checking advance mechanism is also in the list. Jesús |

Jesus, Is the car actually overheating, or is it just running at a temp that you feel is too high???? |

Jesus, The radiator slats look very much like mine. I have no overheating problem even in Florida summer. I would look elsewhere. Best regards, Jim Haskins 1953 TD |

I would suspect timing before anything else. 40 years here in Florida and I have never had my TD or TF even think about overheating. Sandy |
