MG TD TF 1500 - TD Passenger Footrest Color
Got finished painting the transmission tunnel and passenger footrest yesterday. Interesting, but neither of the two transmission tunnels I have had any sign of ever being painted. The passenger footrest, on the other hand, was painted an odd light green color that looked to be original. I don't think I've seen or heard of anything else on the TD originally painted that color? It would seem odd that just one thing on the car would come out of the factory a different color. Since it all gets covered by carpet I just repainted it black... ![]() |

Possibly original removed early and this one installed later in the cars life? PJ |

My guess is that a prior owner stripped the original black paint and then applied light gray primer. Primer is not a good long term protection against rust on steel I think that this is shown in your picture. I painted all my similar parts gloss black to provide the hardest finish against future corrosion. |

Quite possible, PJ. Lord knows what has been done to this car over the past 64 years or so!! |

David: What is your car number and export? What was the original color of your car or was there any evidence of that color on your car? Also the fact that you don't have evidence of carpet glued to the footrest is suspect from original too. The sheet metal finished are here: http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm#SheetMetalFinishes |
