MG TD TF 1500 - TD radiator cap on a TF

What will happen if I run my TF on the increased cooling system pressure of the TD?

The TD is not pressurized, the TF is, to 4PSI from memory.

I believe some folk uses 7PSI caps. I have a 4PSI on mine, cheap Stant brand from Amazon.

Yeah - the TF is mildly pressurized, but try to find a decent quality cap. The closest I can come is .4 bar, or abt 5psi, from China.

Does the TD rad cap have a prtesure rating?

I dont believe the TD has a pressurized cap. Be careful as there are shortnecked caps and long necked caps.

The TD cap is entirely different. Its a screw on affair with a rubber "o" ring seal in place on the tank for a seal. I run a 7 lb cap on my TF made in ??

Gord, see http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/Overflow_tank.htm. I can run my TD as a pressurized system, if I choose. As LED points out, the TD cap is a sealed, threaded device. But the TD radiator has an overflow pipe that I feed into an MGB overflow tank. The tank is sealed with a LEV-R-VENT 4 psi cap that I normally keep in the open position. My cooling system is sealed with one of Butch's water pumps. It can handle the 4 psi with no problems. Bud

My cap is a Stant brand, simple Google search will get you there.

As I said 4PSI, this is not complicated.

Does a TF cooling system have an overflow/over pressure system, such as that on a TD? Where is the steam vented if a TF overheats? Bud

The same way as a TD, a pipe down the side of the radiator.
I tried a 7 psi cap and it made no difference in our climate so went back to a 4psi.

Gates brand 31572 is a number I have seen, NAPA 703-1410, apparently the neck depth of these is 1.41”, easy to measure.
