MG TD TF 1500 - TD Radiator Repair

Can anyone recommend a radiator shop in the US to refurbish my TD radiator. I would like to keep it as original as possible, but am sure that after 60+ years it needs some attention..

Thanks,
Bill

Bill take a look in the phone book and look for a CAT dealer in your area and ask who they use. They do a lot of radiator work. My son sells CAT stuff so he told me that. Worked great when I redid mine.

What's a phone book? We have none in my area.

Have it recored with a modern core no change in looks but well worth it in relation to cooling the engine.

Bill, if you get your rad recored, make sure to get one with three rows of vertical tubes. It makes all the difference in the world of cooling your engine. I don't have a photo of a three row core but attached one of a two row version which I think was stock and not as near as efficient. Been there and done that.

Bill,

Make sure you take pictures from all angles of the radiator and measure the placement of all the fastening tabs and other hardware so the shop can replace them in exactly the same position as before. Otherwise the shell will not be in the same position when reassembled and the bonnet will not fit correctly.

OK so I live in a small town. Had to laugh after I read your phone book comments. I realized it after I posted but thought it would slip by.

Here is the proof.

They are getting smaller but still produced.

Gents,

When I purchased the TD in 2002 I removed the stock radiator to have it tested. Here in small town Florida our shop pulled out an old, dog-eared, paper manual that gave the performance specs. A flow and pressure test came out as new. They said they do not see many like that anymore. 12 years later I replaced the water pump and had the radiator checked again. Same verdict. No repair needed. Green antifreeze/coolant every two years and no cooling problems. Do not fix it if it ain't broke!

I removed, "rodded" and rebuilt mine myself. Had it pressure tested for free. Absolutely as good as the day it was installed. Check the archives on "rodding". Nothing any person can't do themselves, if they know how to solder.

I was playing with overheating problems and took my radiator to a local radiator shop. I asked them to replace the original to core radiator with a three-core. They found a four Core radiator that fit and it looks perfect. I have never had a heating problem since. It was a real old time radio shop in Edison, New Jersey.

When you find a place let them know your drain valve receptacle is not SAE threads.

Bill, if you still have not found a shop up your way, Brock's Radiator in Lavonia, GA completely redid my original TF radiator three years ago. It went back in no problem and the car runs much cooler. Lavonia is the 2nd exit into Georgia coming down I85. Good luck

I think I may have found a shop in Kinston, about an hour away. Will check them out next week.
