MG TD TF 1500 - TD Rear Axle Oil, what's your recomondation?
I found this one: Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140 Is it what you recommend? Nothing about Hypoid |

Günter I use hypoid gear oil Ravenol Hypoid EPX gear oil SAE 85W-140 GL-5 Hypoid, purchased at RAVENOL online store. Angloparts Penrite 85W / 140 would also be a good recommendation. Ravenol says it behaves neutrally to non-ferrous metal. |

A GL-5 is not a good choice. There is soft metal used in the carrier as thrust washers for the spider gears. They are NLA. These will be destroyed if the incorrect Gear oils are used. Recommend the use of a GL-4 rating that is safe for soft metals ie brass, copper |

I use that GL5 because it is neutrally to non ferrous metal.

John Twist says to use GL-4 hypoid gear oil, not GL-5, because of bronze/"yellow" parts in diff. He buys Sta-Lube API/GL-4 Multi-Purpose Gear Oil SAE 85W90 for hypoid gears from NAPA. I have Redline 75w90 (GL5) - #57904 in the diff right now at the recommendation of some members of this BBS. Redline website implies that it's OK for yellow metal parts. I'll probably switch to Sta-Lube when my diff is rebuilt. Lonnie TF7211 |

Dave Clark who built my 4.3 rear axel also recommended Sta-Lube API/GL-4 Multi-Purpose Gear Oil SAE 85W90 for hypoid gears from NAPA. initially, it was a synthetic Mobil 1 but found it leaked past the seals easier than the GL4 85W90 Rod. |

Günter I think you want to buy in Germany. Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140 is also GL5, like Penrite 85W-140 too - but RAVENOL is the only one I know who says no harm to non ferrous. |

This is GL-4 available in Germany https://www.ebay.de/itm/1-Liter-Meguin-megol-Hypoid-Getriebeoel-GL4-SAE-75W-90-1x1L/222394496742 Regards Declan |
