MG TD TF 1500 - TD side curtain box felt pattern
Does anyone have a copy of the Moss direction sheet for trimming the TD side curtain box? I’ve lost my instruction sheet. Bill Chasser TD/c-8151 |

Bill I made newspaper templates with the goal of using as few pieces as possible. A nice job sitting on the lounge one evening. Once glued in place the joins in the corners are impossible to see. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter. What I need to understand is how it’s laid out. Is it one piece to cover the back bottom and front? Two pieces to cover each side? Do the side pieces go over to cover the pockets of the ears? Are the individual pieces overlapped or flush with each other? I was hoping to get a copy of the layout. Seems to me I remember the Moss kit has a dimensional drawing of the layout. It’s been too long since I stripped the curtain boxes I have of their felts and I can’t seem to find any pics of the boxes during deconstruction. Like you I try to be a stickler of the nitty details.

The Moss pattern and instructions can be found HERE: https://mossmotors.com/media/instructions/456-458_980-153_INST.pdf It is not an accurate pattern. More of an outline. When I did mine, I made the above sketch for the box. BUT boxes may differ. The top is a separate piece. With the felt and the box coated in contact cement It takes 6 arms to get it to go together Plan on lots of pieces of wax paper to stop the sides from sticking until you get the bottom aligned and stuck. Jim. That’s what I’m looking for. Thanks! Did you receive the check for the T nuts. I sent it the day after I received them. My bank account doesn’t show it being cashed. Bill Chasser TD/c-8151 |

I couldn't remember how many Bill, as I had a few goes with the paper to work out how to reduce the number of pieces. On the first attempt though I remember having 10 templates. I found the gluing pretty simple using diluted water based PVA. I first brushed on neat PVA to the box, soaked the piece in the bucket, squeezed it out and then laid it in place. I was able to both shrink and stretch the felt while wet so that it fitted perfectly into the corners. The exterior grade PVA woodworking glue is milky but it dries clear. The sketch above seems pretty accurate. I recall either 6 or 8 pieces. With a bit of care it ends up looking like one piece. I also used two grommets to fill the drain holes in the bottom of the box as there is zero chance that any rain will enter with the hood, tonneau or half tonneau in place. Much more likely that any road water would enter the box from the bottom, and damage the side curtains, hence the grommets. Cheers
