MG TD TF 1500 - TD spare tire adapter for wire wheels

Anyone know the part number for a TD spare tire adapter for wire wheels from Moss or anywhere for that matter. I cant find it anywhere.

Thanks,
Rich

Since wire wheels were never offered during the TD run, there is no TD part or part number. A TF head can be cut and modified to fit the TD adapter frame.

IF it helps Rich,
This is what I have on my 53 TD
I have more photos if you need them.

Moss has a whole conversion kit but I don't see where they have sold the spare adapter separately. You could contact them and ask if they would sell you one.

I have two spare tire racks and the one for wire wheels just has a hub cut and welded on. Most of the setups I have seen use a bolt on adapter so you can swap the wheel type as needed.

One thing to look out for is how far off the spare tire rack the wheel sits when mounted. Some of the adapters leave enough space where you could easily put your hand back there and that looks odd to me.

Rich, I have a wire wheel rack available, less the bottom clamps, with the spare knock off. Email if interested.

Hey guys,

As Christopher mentioned Moss does sell an adapter with the wheel kit they sell. But I cannot find it for purchase separately. Buying the kit would be the easy way to go but I am not sure I want the 60 spoke rims. I am leaning towards the Dayton 72 spoke rims. Opinions on that are welcome as I have not decided yet.

Frank thanks for the offer of the tire rack. I am not sure if I want to go that route just yet, but I will keep it in mind.

Thanks,
Rich

The pre-war Triple-M cars used an adapter that could possibly be modified for use or simply bolted on.

Just interested to know if the TC alloy part is the same as TF. I assume that even if there were differences, it might still be suitable to adapt to fit the TD?

"but I am not sure I want the 60 spoke rims. I am leaning towards the Dayton 72 spoke rims. "

Hah. I think the 48 spoke ones are just right. :-)

Don't know what spinners or whatever work with Moss wheels, but I fabricated our spare tire post for MGB splined wheels. I found 2" pipe threads worked with MGB RH thread spinners. I cut an extra long thread on a piece of pipe and cut it to fit/weld to spare tire bracket.

Well I went with Dayton 60 and like em. :)

I called Moss today and they do sell the adapter as a separate unit. Not giving it away though. $350 USD and it comes with the knock off. Not listed in the book or online. The part number is 234-207 for anyone interested.
