MG TD TF 1500 - TD Suspension Rebuild
Good day to all,
I just received a front suspension rebuild kit from Moss. I was looking at the parts and noticed the new trunion bolts and the spacers do not have a tight fit. They seemed very loose, so I checked them against the originals. The originals fit Very nicely, the new ones do not. I have attached 3 photos. The first is the original bolt and spacer. The second is the original bolt and new spacer. Finally, the new bolt and new spacer. AS you can see, the fit gets increasingly poor from photo 1-3. What do you think? Is this the best I can expect? If not, what is your advice for a solution? Thanks again for your help, Jim Smith Nashville, Tennessee ![]() ![]() |

The shanks on modern bolts tend to be undersized when compared to older bolts. This is due to the threads being rolled rather than being cut. No excuse for the spacer being undersized. Unless badly buggered I would use the originals. Jim B. |

I think you’ll find that they are metric. At least my BSF hardware didn’t fit the Moss bolts. They haven’t been nutted on dads car yet. |

While browsing the AS"How-to's" I ran across this. https://abingdonspares.com/blogs/tech-tips/improved-part It seems they have corrected the problem and done it correctly. Jim B. |

I misread the OP. I thought you were speaking of the rear suspension. |

I avoid replacement parts as a lot of them are JUNK & I repair / rebuild the original ones. Even the better big box stores are now repackaging the junk parts as their own now. IMO! I do trust Tom Lange > MG T Repair and Doug Pelton > From The Frame Up! Len Fanelli Abingdon Performance Ltd. |
