MG TD TF 1500 - TD windshield glass


TD-4834 is not available for me to look at at the moment. So I can’t answer this myself. I’m going to the local glass shop very soon to get 4 new windshields made up. Did the original glass come as clear or did they have a greenish tint to it? I have three bad windshields here at the house, all are tinted green, none have the the correct Tri-Plex date etchings or that section of the glass is absent and so I’m considering them to be aftermarket renderings. Quick responses would be most helpful. Please make sure your glass is original before responding by looking for a “Tri-Plex Plate” etching at the upper corner of your glass similar to the photo

To the best of my knowledge, green tint was more of a 60's / 70's thing. T-Series was always clear.

Don't get local glass. It's not the right size. You need true 1/4" and you will get a metric size abut 1 mm to small.

FTFU has the true glass.

Laminated clear Bill. Take a template. Have them mask both sides as mine was re-cut twice because small glass chips in the cutting table carpet scratched my glass in a number of places on both sides. Ensure the glass is free of scratches before you pay for it. I also had them relieve the glass where the blocks and fittings are. Pretty sure Lew Palmer has the quarter correct masks to apply the appropriate Triplex logo. It should be the quarter before the build date of the car. I don't advise using the rubber. A much better job can be had with black windscreen poly. Messy but manageable and totally waterproof. Cheers

I took in a cracked but intact glass as a template to a shop specializing in vintage cars. Seems none of the auto glass shops in Sacramento cut their own glass anymore. It all comes pre made. Ah the good old days when you could get “repairs while you wait”
