MG TD TF 1500 - TD4834 Update
Paintwork is completed. Engine is coming out of the machine shop today. I had to use my Ironhead due to time constraints in having valves made for the Laystall. The engine is now +.040 with Arias 9.6:1 pistons, Fanelli full roller valve train with the 236/236 cam and Phoenix billet rods to a new std/std crank shaft. A stainless steel Steve Baker TRI-Y header with integrated intake using H4 carbs. I stayed with a 7 1/4" clutch set up on a lightened stock flywheel. The stock transmission was freshened up and waiting as well as the driveline. The rear end has been upgraded to a 4.55:1 ring & pinion and should be a good unit for spirited canyon carving./ If the need arises a 5 speed will be added to give the car near a 4.33:1 but I wanted to see how this works first. I have all the interior pieces ready to be fitted but I have yet to make an appointment with Sure Fit in San Leandro, CA. So this weekend starts a big push to get the engine together and setting in the car hopefully by mid next week...God willing! I'm getting excited to hear this car running (I am sure dad is as well) on its first load of fuel and experience the sweet smell of toluene and castor oil mixed in. I'm ready to hear the engine thump with this camshaft, ready to put the rear up on jack stands and run the transmission up through the gears and let the oils circulate throughout the drive train! I'm ready for Springtime in a TD, MY TD!!! From this in July 2014 |

LaVerne, I tried to load pics but I can't seem to downsize them. I'm not computer savvy and I don't understand how to do it I wanted to show the pic when I brought it home and the current cond. but... Regards Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |

Bill an easy way to downsize a picture is drag and paste the photo into a Word doc. Then resize the image by clicking on the image and then dragging a corner into towards the centre until you get a reasonable size image on the page. I then use the Snipping Tool to capture the image I want. The save the snip as a new jpg image. I then upload this image to the thread. Do not save the word doc. I hope the above makes sense. Use the Paint program which comes with Windows. Highlight the photo, right click and open it in "Paint". Go to upper left side of the screen and hit "Resize", type in 35, hit ok, then save the photo as, JPG with a name for the photo and where you want to save it. It will then be sized for upload to this site. PJ |

Stuart, I can't thank you enough for that bit of wisdom. I've been doing battle with images in documents in Word or Adobe sent to me by folks so that I can put them on my website, Ttalk. Converting embedded images into jpeg can drive one up a wall. Never gave thought to using Snip. Thank you, thank you. Bud |

I absolutely hate Windows 8.1 I cannot get pictures to downsize with paint and load them here Maybe its time to do some work to this site..I don't have any issue with pics from my comp or IPhone going to social media so why do I here?? Its just not worth the damn frustration...sorry for my rant |

Bill, you might want to consider reducing the resolution (size) of the images that you're taking. I understand that the BB will accept up to 1MB. Bud |

W. A. Chasser. I'm no fan of Windows 8.1 but I have been able to downsize photos. Here's what I do: open the photo in Paint. In the HOME tab, click RESIZE, when the RESIZE and SKEW window opens, ensure the percentage dot is blacked out, then change the Horizontal figure from 100 to say 50 which will automatically change the vertical. Ensure the aspect ratio box is checked, then click OK. The smaller photo will then display. Then go to the FILE tab and click off Save As. You must give the photo a new file name for the resized image to be retained in your photo files. I'm no computer expert by any means but this has worked for me and was probably discovered by trial and error. LOL. |

I took the engine pieces to Lawrie Alexander's this Am. We spent time looking over the Laystall. Pulled the z/28 springs and set them up on the Rimac. With the installed spring height of 1.59 the seat pressure stands at 140 psi and 300 psi at .430 lift. .100 more to coil bind. So we are going to run with it as is and the Laystall is good to go. This has been a frustrating issue for month and a half and I'm glad to see that what Lawrie came up with will indeed work after all. There are clearance issues to be addressed on the block. 1) a .060 cut must be made for intake clearance on the cylinders deck for the extra valve lift. 2) the block requires clearancing above #3 s lifter bore to put the stabilizer bar on the roller lifter inboard to clear the notch on the Arnolt push rod cover that provides space for the distributor. Also the Laystall needs chamfering around the combustion chamber perimeters and spark plug holes after having the head surface trued. Not an issue but just time consuming. So we will be working on this together to speed the process. The engine assembly should be completed by the weekend and hope to bring it home and get it setting in the car by next Sunday. The goal now is to do the fire up by the 10th of April with all the wings fitted. This may be a bit ambitious but Ive got to make this happen. Dad's health is declining at a quickening pace. He is unable to walk more than 50' with a cane. He is very unstable and gets tired easy. He is having multiple TIAs each day and is spending more time reclined. I don't think he will be actually able to drive the car now and I doubt he would accept my offer if given to him. I'm hoping I can throw the old seats in it sans any interior and be able to take him for a short ride around the neighborhood. It is the best I can hope for at this point. I believe he is holding on long enough to hear it running and then he will be gone soon after. I wished that there would be more time for him and his health to enjoy it. He has been so supportive of my efforts in both finances and his own efforts early on in restoring all the Lucas electrics. He rebuilt the starter, Dynamo, switches , Gauges, regulator and his input has been invaluable in the restoration process. Though we haven't seen eye to eye on some of the build in particular my desire to build the engine in the configuration that is to be but that is because I have a very different purpose and expectation for the car. In the end I think he will be pleased I ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers Regards Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |
