MG TD TF 1500 - TD Fender welt
Well I'll try this again I went to Chris Coupers site and couldn't find the information I am after even though I thought it was there. I just had Fenderwelt material made up for the wings and front apron but I'm realizing now I got it too big. What are the sizes for the filler to make the beads on the wings and apron I know they are two sizes. The upholstery shop that did mine per my idea of what was right. I have no original pieces to go by nor a car close at hand to compare. Help[!!! I need to hang my wings... Yet another two steps backward moment. It doesn't look bad but it is rather big Bill Chasser Jr TD4834 |

From Picture 96 of my Tub and Wing section on my website: The vinyl is wrapped around a 5/16 OD hard plastic tubing, and then sown close to the edge with a one sided presser foot. We created four 72" x 4-1/2" strips on the bias from the material I bought and wrapped them around 24 feet of the plastic tubing. Final diameter is about 3/8". The smaller front valance piping is three feet long and wrapped around a 1/8" tube. Its final diameter is about 1/4". The strips are stapled to boards for painting with a combination of body, clear and flex agent. warmly, dave |

Thsnk you Dave Braun. Can you tell me the source of the vinyl tubing/round stock you used? My upholstery shop hasn't seen this stuff. He used soft rubber/foam stock and is nothing like the material Moss uses on their upholstery kits. If I can find this stuff I'll rip the seams and restitch it. My Vinyl is a perfect match to my ivory paint I sprayed so I won't need to dye/ paint it to match. Cheers Bill Chasserjr TD4834 |

Bill, Where/how did you get vinyl to match your body color? I've ordered samples from a couple places and no joy. I'd rather not paint it if I don't have to. Of course your ivory paint may be different from mine... Thanks, David |

David Littlefield My ivory may not be your ivory though mine was matched from paint under the fender welting on the rear wings, completely out of the sunlight or air and pollutants. The vinyl color that matched my paint is called Biscayne Buff and is a marine grade very high wear and UV protected material. It's a bit pricey. I don't know the manufacturer off hand but will be back at the in a few days to try to resolve my beading size issue I made for myself. If you look at the first post of TD$*#$ update and click the image you can see for yourself the color represented in the photo at least on my screen is pretty accurate and is ivory beige, not cream which has an oleo appearance to it. Hope this helps Regards Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |

David, I used a dye in a spray can. It is perfectly colour matched to my ivory paint. It's flexible like a dye & won't crack when used on exterior piping. Paint on the other hand looks like paint & will crack. Of course the ideal would be to find a vinyl that is a perfect match to the original ivory paint but it just doesn't exist here & I've spent some time looking. I've tested the colour by spraying it on the corner of my front apron (which I have yet to repair) & when dry it matches the ivory paint beside it perfectly. Your ivory paint Bill appears to be identical to mine which I've checked against a few original panels on various cars & I know to be correct. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, Did you have the dye color matched or was it an off-the-shelf color? If the latter, what color and manufacturer? Bill, I found the Biscayne Buff. I think your Ivory is probably more beige than mine, but I ordered a sample card of the Biscayne color line and hopefully there will be a color that matches. Thanks, y'all, for your help. David |

David the firm is here in Sydney. They produced the colour matched dye (using my front apron) & the guys who put my ivory acrylic lacquer in spray cans did the same with the dye. Maybe if you Google vinyl dyes in your part of the world you may have some luck. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

The tubing was from the hardware store. I applied body paint with an elastomer in it to add flex, used for repainting bumpers. |

I just bought mine from Moss. I don't remember the price but it was probably within reason or I wouldn't have bought it. Fyi, I saw your photo of the stuff you had and I agree, it was way too big, if it's the photo I'm thinking of. Ed |
