MG TD TF 1500 - temp bulb seal

I searched the archives, but can't seem to get a good answer.
One of the last things to do to my engine install is to attach the temp sender bulb to the rad. Is there a fiber/rubber washer that seals it to the top tank??

Steve, there is no seal on my temp sensor. It just screws into the radiator. It appears to be a pipe thread. No leaks.

I also put on Teflon tape. No leaks.

Should be a fiber washer against the collar.

Chris,
Thanks,, I picked up some rubber "O" rings at lunch time,, one of them shoud do the trick,, maybe there is a fiber washer inside and I just didn't notice it??
I have attached a pic which shows that teflon tape on the threads doesn't do anything to stop the water if the water is not stopped at the edge inside the rad.

This issue has come up before. As I remember there are two configurations.
One is a goz-into tightener and the other is a goz-onto tightener.

The radiator has a threaded hole. (Upper left)
Into it goes a brass adapter. This has a fiber washer.
(upper right) There are two configurations. Mine may not be the most common but it seems to be what you have.
(This is not the original radiator, its a replacement off eBay)
The Temp Sender has a screw attachment. Mine is a goz-into. (upper right)
My temp gauge has a small thin copper washer to between the adapter and the sender expansion tube. (Lower Left)
Again the 52 did not have a temp gauge. This was again an eBay purchase. The gasket did come with the gauge.

I dont remember the other configuration but there was a discussion on it.

I did find a picture of the gos-onto configuration in the Archives.
By Corey Pedersen 2/25/2013.

I don't know how this seals but it could be the same seal.

Moss lists two "Adapters" 361-060 Male/Female
361-075 Male/male adapter.

There is also a "Grommet-Capillary Tube" 680-630 $1.19

To me a grommet is rubber. This could be a Firewall Grommet
I dont know.

Whoops. Sorry. I thought we were talking about the outer collar which JA shows with the correct fiber washer.

I would just try some plumbers teflon paste where you applied the teflon tape. It's thicker and should be able to handle the looser tolerances of the inner fitting.
Christopher Couper

Since the radiator/cooling system is unpressurized I should think that teflon tape would be more than satisfactory in stopping any potential leaks.
Gene Gillam

I would just screw it in and check for leaks. Mine is installed with no washers or sealer and doesn't leak. Why address a problem that you don't know if you have or not.

Gene,
Check the picture again. If water gets past the edge of the bulb, it will just go right out through the large opening of the screw in piece. See the red water route.
