MG TD TF 1500 - Testing SU pump on the bench

Can you test a pump on the bench (for a few seconds)with no fuel??
I don’t fancy a can of petrol and a battery!!

No problem, if you don't fancy petrol jus run water through it to test and then air to dry it out.

To get all the water out, you would neeed to remove the aluminum pieces and dry them out. water in the aluminum pump pieces don't like water sitting in them. Your best bet is to use some cleaning solvent (paint thinner, etc.) to test the pump.

Use paraffin, its much safer than petrol, and if a trace is left, it's miscible with petrol.

I believe on this side of the pond paraffin is known as kerosene.

or run some diesel fuel through it--less chance of fire if that's the issue
