MG TD TF 1500 - TF 1500 pushrods


Does a 1500 engine take short or long pushrods? I have two bent pushrods that I know of, so I'm going to buy a complete set, Moss shows two lengths. Also is there a better pushrod than Moss sells? PJ

OK, here's where I'm at now. One rocker is bad, 2 push rods bent, everything else seems ok, for now!

The only times I've had push rods get bent were when they seized (even momentarily) in the valve guides. Make sure your valve guides have the proper clearance.

After pulling the manifolds off I was able to look at the valve stems and found #4 & 5 had quite a bit of carbon build up on them, #1 & 8, were normal. Assuming the fuel mixture was too rich causing this situation, took 4 years to do this! Carb cleaner seems to cut the carbon build up on the stems. Crane Cam followers/tappets are in perfect condition as is the cam! Set of new Crane push rods coming, new #5 rocker arm and we'll give it a go. Rocker is pitted. Later, PJ

New Crane pushrods, new #5 rocker arm and all is well. 4 years for this to happen and after a couple long test runs everything seems fine. Runs like a champ! PJ

I would send the bad rocker to Rocker Arm Specialists and have the tip stellite-welded, and re-shaped as original. A new rocker is not worth the money.

Tom, I got the rocker and pushrods from Dan Craig which I think, he bought years ago for a project and never used, so I would assume their not from modern stock. PJ

Tom, since you've used Rocker Arm Spec. in the past, what's their rate to restore a T rocker assembly? Just curious.
