MG TD TF 1500 - TF Battery Box

My Battery Box is in pretty poor shape ( acid damage plus some rust for good measure )I even have some remains of the old timbers
Now the query How do get it out ?? Is it welded in or bolted in Or do I have to try to refurbish same in situ
regards John
Cant see a battery box in the Moss Catologue ??

The battery box is spot welded in, across the back, down both sides and across the front. You can drill out the welds and plug the holes in the fire wall or do as I did and grind the welds down inside the box leaving the firewall unmolested. New boxes are available and a hand spot welder will secure a new box as near factory as possible. PJ

Here's my new box welded in the same positions as factory.

When I wanted to replace mine I found that none of the usual suppliers listed them (strange but true), so I made one from sheet steel. Since then I have occasionally seen them for sale on ebay uk. An alternative would probably be Sportscar Metalworks (Metal Mickey).

Dave, I got mine from Moss about 4 years ago. There is a slight difference between the new one and the original. The upper lip on the back is straight on the new one and the original tapered out slightly in the middle, hardly noticeable. PJ

Yes, I see that Moss UK has them now. I think its worth buying the plastics tray liner as well to prevent any future corrosion.

Saw a TF at a show yesterday that had a plastic box. The new AGM batteries don't spout acid I believe.

Many thanks for the help,I think I will give Moss a ring.
The last thing I bought from them ticked all the boxes

Hope the Moss one was better than the one they sent me 4 years ago. It was about 1/4" too wide.

I ended up having a metal fabricator create the back with a lip since that was the only part that was hacked up on my car. I ground down the old area where the new plate would rest and then glued it in place using modern car panel adhesive. It looks just like an original after painting.

I would suggest Kilmartin, an Australian company that make and export sheetmetal parts for various MGs, AHs and Triumphs around the world, and have an agent in the Netherlands, but a look at the kilmartin.eu website shows only AH parts.

Try this link, I have bought parts from these people and they are excellent.
