MG TD TF 1500 - TF Bonnet catch mechanism coating
Hi Guys Just completed the assembly of my bonnet catch mechanism after giving them an overhaul and installing the couple of items I got from Hugh Pite in Canada to replace the missing parts on mine. They currently have a coating of spray oil to stay off rust but I am wondering what people have done to prevent rust permantly. After pic! ![]() |

They were cad plated originally. You could have them zync plated today or soft chrome (looks like cad). Or you could leave them as is with your oil treatment periodically. They look nice. |

I agree with Chris, they look pretty nice as is. Try a protective treatment for bare metal like http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/paint-body/hppp-1106-pontiac-rust-prevention/ there are a few products meant to keep bare metal looking good, google it! |

I used a cold galvanizing compound and they look pretty nice. Once it sets up it darkens slightly and has the dull appearance of zinc. I use a heat gun to cure it. I've been asked before where I got them plated, they look that close. This pic is the first one I tried. PJ![]() |

Thanks guys some good ideas here. After all the hard work cleaning the last thing I want is for them to get rusty again. Appreciate the nice comments. D |
