MG TD TF 1500 - TF brake drums
Should new steel composition wire wheel brake drums be painted? If not painted, do they end up looking horrible? Tom '54 TF |

Where's your sporting spirit LaVerne? A member of our local 'T' Register (since passed away) painted all four drums red. Cheers - Dave |

I know red cars always go faster, maybe red drums stop faster? Don TF 4887 'Figaro' TC 1736 'Sibelius' |

I used clear paint, less flashy, just to prevent rust. rgds mike |

Thanks Mike I had not thought of clear coat. I like the look of the new steel and wanted to keep it. Now I can with a clear paint/coat. Tom |

Black is the best colour for radiating heat, and brake drums get very hot. Dave H |

I was planning on using engine enamel in black from Autozone. Thoughts. |

When I bought my TF 40 years ago the drums were painted red- it seems it was a popular choice back in the day- I was tempted to leave them red, but in the end went for black. |

I did red drums and calipers on my B but I got a lot of flack so I painetd them black a couple of years ago.

I used black engine enamel on mine about 6 years ago. Three of them still look good but the fourth seized a little one day and now looks a little flaky from the extra heat, but its an easy fix. Matthew. |
