MG TD TF 1500 - TF brake shoe arcing shop?

Hi all:

Was wondering if anyone knows of brake shops that still do brake shoe arcing....somewhere in or near California?

I'm replacing the rear drums and shoes on the TF, but likely will run into a less that ideal arc fitment. I've contacted several shops in the SFO bay area and so far no one is doing that anymore for a variety of reasons.

May need to consider shops elsewhere in the lower 48.

Thanks in advance for any help in locating a shop that can do the arcing.

Cheers!

I think these guys still do it:

The 16th Avenue location does riveting; all the gluing is sent to the El Centro location.

JLG Relining do it, not cheap, but perfect and good lining material to.

Google will find them.

Thanks gentlemen....I'll reach out and see if they can do the arcing.

Cheers!

Try Capitol Clutch in West Sacramento. They used to arc my centrifugal clutch linings but I haven’t used their services for about 6 years I have been planning on sending shoes to them for relining this spring.

Peter,

Did you mean https://www.jgrelining.com/ ?

JLG does not give any hits.

In any case, I have also reached out to them to inquire for information and prices. I also learned that this outfit will install new cast iron liners into the drum to MG T series. Was not cheap but if you have a drum that is out of spec and can not replace, worth the price I guess.

Yes Frank sorry, old age has seen the onset of Skyzheimers after 44 years in aviation.

I know it was not cheap, I had standard 9” drums, verified with vernier. They arced them, the linings were thicker than the Moss ones. Many less clicks to get adjustment.

Plus they can advise on lining material once they know what you are driving.

Valley Friction Materials in North Hollywood have been doing it for decades. Just don't say you want them arced, as this is now frowned upon by state legislators. Say you want them fit to your drums.

I do my own "fitting" now, but my machine is currently needing repair.

Thanks for the additional sources. WA...I called Capitol Clutch. They do in fact do that service and relining. I didn't ask what the cost was, but they did say they want both the drum and brake shoe for fitment and would return them marked as matched.

Cheers,

Good to hear Capital is still doing them. I can also give them a good recommendation. They have rebuilt the clutch plates on a number of my vehicles, including my TD. You sent it to them and they come back brand new.

They even did a clutch and brakes for a 1920 cleatrak tractor we are restoring.
