MG TD TF 1500 - TF Eng Stabilizer Bracket to Shock Absorber Spacer
Hi I am after the dimensions (ID, OD & thickness) for the spacer that is located between the engine stabilizer bracket and the shock absorber. I assume it has a painted black finish. Thanks for your help Graeme ![]() |

Graeme, What car is that on, doesn't look like a TF bracket mounting? Must be how I'm looking at the photo. PJ |

Ok, Ok I got it, gee wiz! The shock is off, coffee didn't kick in yet, brain doesn't start up until the second cup! Grin. PJ |

IIRC there are two different spacers depending on if you have Girlings or Armstrong shocks. I think my car started with Girlings and later got Armstrongs because I have a stack of washers there instead of a solid spacer. :-( Later cars had the bulge on the fender so either shock could be used. |

The car is a 1952 TD (16480). I know because I took the photo! Fun to see these things cycle back. Jim |

I will measure mine since I do have access to it with the bonnet side panels off. I'll post tomorrow. |

Chris, The cars fitted with Girling dampers did not require a spacer, The bracket was designed for these units. I assume that when the factory changed to Armstrong they found it cheaper to add a spacer than to retool for the bracket. John |

Graeme,
My TF chassis is apart. I measured the spacer: The spacer is steel. Its 1/2 long. Approx 11/16 outside diameter. Wall thickness = 0.140. Approx 13/32 inside diameter to fit over shank of 3/8 diameter Whitworth hex head bolt with BSF threads. Bolt is 1-7/8 long from underside of head to tip. Unthreaded shank is approx 1-1/8. I also assume that it is painted black. Im painting mine black this weekend in prep to start reassembling the chassis. The bolt head is black on TF9052 (engine photo #070). No photo of the spacer. Thankyou for all the information, I will get one turned up as my car does not have one at present. Looking in the Service Parts List which item do you think the spacer is: Distance Tube - Engine Control Bracket - Part No. 500538 or Washer - Engine Control Link Bracket - Part No. PWZ105 Graeme |

Looks like it's 500538 from AKD804: Bud ![]() |
